At h.i. we believe that culture is an expression of technology, as it brings structure to our thoughts, beliefs, and actions in a way that can be shared with other people. Not consumed, shared so it can evolve and become something new when people contribute to it.

Unfortunately, we've been taught that culture should serve technology, especially when it comes to making and controlling resources.

However, some people are breaking that paradigm and using the digital tools we have to de-toxify the stagnant culture of the tech industry into something that can and should serve the interests of the people.

Audrey Tang is one of those people.

Tang came to my attention through a talk she did with the EFF where she talked about how to apply open-source software to government applications to thwart corruption and overreach through what she calls radical transparency as Taiwan's first Minister of Digital Affairs. I found her thoughts compelling and did some reading about who she was as a person and much like us at h.i. she has a specific way of looking at the world that guides the kind of work she does.

Make some time to listen to this.
